Air Passenger Traffic Up 88 Percent in September: AP I

6 October 2021 13:04 WIB

Airplane passengers are looking at the departure schedule board at Terminal 3 Soekarno Hatta Airport, Tangerang, Banten, Friday 21 April 2021. PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero) Soekarno Hatta Airport Main Branch Office ensures that there will be regular flights on 22 April to 5 May 2021 by imposing tightening requirements for Domestic Travelers (PPDN) on the basis of the Addendum to the Circular Letter of the COVID-19 Task Force Number 13 of 2021 concerning the abolition of the Eid al-Fitr homecoming in 1442 H. TEMPO.CO, JakartaAir passenger traffic in 15 airports under state-run airport operator Angkasa Pura I (AP I) jumped by 88 percent in September 2021, reaching 1.94 million people, compared to the previous month at around 1.03 million people, the company reported.

“This is driven by the drop in PPKM level status from level 4 (the strictest) to level 3 on the island of Java, Bali, and several other regions. The air travel requirements are also relaxed,” said AP I President Director Faik Fahmi on Wednesday, October 6.

The soaring number of passengers was followed by the hike in aircraft traffic by 44.3 percent as of September 2021. The number of aircraft movements from 16,192 in August increased to 23,379 in September. Meanwhile, cargo transportation jumped by 11.4 percent.

The highest traffic occurred at Sultan Hasanuddin Airport in Makassar with 473,566 passengers, followed by Juanda Airport in Surabaya with 394,473 passengers and I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali with 235,437 passengers.

In total, the air passenger number at the 15 airports from January to September 2021 amounted to 18,394,352, while the number of aircraft traffic hit 227,968.

“Even though the figure has not been able to match the air traffic before the Emergency PPKM period, the growth in September is a positive signal for the aviation industry to start rising gradually,” said Faik.
