TEMPO.CO, Tangerang - The traffic of air passengers at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Tangerang, started to increase by 400,000-450,000 people per day after the government eased the public mobility restrictions or PPKM and relaxed policy on mandatory COVID-19 test from PCR to antigen test.
“There has been a surge [in passenger traffic],” said M Holik Muwardi, as the Senior Manager of Branch Communication and Legal of the airport operator Angkasa Pura II (AP), on Tuesday, October 5.
According to Holik, the passenger traffic increase has been observed in the last two weeks. “There are 40,000 passengers pass through the international airport on weekdays and 45,000 to over 50,000 passengers on weekends.”
In addition to passenger traffic, AP II also recorded an increase in air traffic to 450 flights, compared to that during the PPKM Level 4 period at around 340-360 flights per day. The number of passengers at that time, meanwhile, was 30,000-33,000 per day.
“During PPKM Level 4, there are even only 15,000 passengers per day,” Holik added.
He expressed optimism that the traffic of air passengers at Soekarno-Hatta Airport would continue to increase in line with relaxed PPKM policies. Holik also ensured that the health protocols would continue to be applied strictly.
The number of foreign passengers also increased at Soekarno-Hatta Airport. Based on the airport immigration checkpoint data, there were 11,401 foreigners arrived at the airport from September 15 to October 4, 2021.
