TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Metro Police Traffic Directorate mulled allowing cyclists to pass routes applying the odd-even policy on Jalan Sudirman-Thamrin starting today, September 7, 2021. The police, however, would run the trial for three days.
“If it causes crowds, we can stop the policy,” said Jakarta Police Traffic Director Sr. Comr. Sambodo Purnomo Yugo in his office, Monday, September 6.
The Jakarta Metro Police had initially barred bicycles from entering roads under the odd-even traffic scheme during the implementation of public mobility restrictions (PPKM).
During the trial, the police would monitor attributes or identification cards of cyclists who are crossing the area, whether or not they are indeed on the way to work. “Or they use the policy for purposes other than work,” Sambodo said.
The police, Sambodo went on, still prohibited bike to sports activities along Jalan Sudirman-Thamrin. He said officers would stand guard in the odd-even routes to prevent cyclists from entering the roads for sports activities.
