TEMPO.CO, Bogor - The Bogor Police are set to apply the odd-even policy for motorized vehicles heading to Puncak, Bogor regency, West Java. The Regional Traffic Police Unit Head Adj. Comr. Dicky Pranata said the traffic system would take effect this weekend, from Friday, September 3, until Sunday, September 5, 2021.
The policy was aimed at anticipating traffic jams in the area as occurred last weekend. “Based on our evaluation, monitoring, and study conducted in recent weeks. We think that the odd-even traffic policy implementation can optimize the police’s performance in reducing vehicles heading to Puncak on weekends or holidays during PPKM (COVID-19 restrictions),” Dicky told Tempo in Cibinong, Bogor, Monday, August 30.
PPKM Level 3 is still in place in Bogor regency, as crowds of vehicles last weekend were feared to trigger the coronavirus transmission leading to a yet another surge in COVID-19 cases.
During PPKM Level 3, the joint apparatus only checked the COVID-19 vaccination cards of travelers heading to Puncak.
Since many people have been vaccinated, Dicky argued the inspection would no longer be effective in reducing the number of vehicles.
“Other than applying the odd-even policy, we will later combine it with the mandatory PCR results connected to the PeduliLindungi application for residents who want to travel [to Puncak],” he said.
