TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said Indonesia had exported auto-disable syringes for the Covid-19 vaccination. The single-use syringe is produced by medical devices manufacturer PT. Oneject Indonesia in Cikarang.
“This is the government's dream, the government’s program that we produce as many domestic products as possible,” Luhut said as quoted in a written statement on Friday, August 27.
The export of the syringes was to meet the needs of the United Nations Children's Emergency Fund or UNICEF and the demands of the Ukrainian market. Luhut said the export of medical devices was a good step amid the government's efforts to increase the use of domestic products and increase exports of finished products.
The minister believed the need for imports in the future could be suppressed if domestic production continued to be optimized. Moreover, the country’s yearly spending for the health sector was huge, and most of it was met by imports.
Luhut also said all parties must support the efforts to boost domestic production. Other than reducing the country’s dependence on foreign products and saving foreign exchange, enhancing domestic production could increase job opportunities.
