TEMPO.CO, JakartaPresident Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Monday said the COVID-19 public activity restrictions (PPKM Level 3) would be adapted to the improvement indicators the country had shown during the last PPKM period.

One of which is the export-oriented industry and their subsidiaries that would be allowed to operate at 100 percent capacity. “However, they will be closed for five days once a new COVID-19 cluster emerges,” said President Jokowi on Monday, August 23.

Other areas that are gradually reopened include houses of worship. The new PPKM Level 3 permits attendance of up to 25 percent or a maximum of 30 persons. Restaurants are now permitted to a 25 percent dine-in capacity with tables limited to two persons and business hours to 8 p.m.

Malls and shopping centers, said the President, are permitted to open until 8 p.m. with a 50 percent maximum capacity under strict health protocols monitored closely by local administrations.

“The Greater Jakarta agglomeration area, Bandung Raya, Surabaya Raya, and other cities are under Level 3 (PPKM) starting August 24,” said the President on the Presidential Secretariat's Youtube video today. This new policy will be effective from August 24-30.

Moreover, confirmed positive cases have continued to dwindle. Comparing the situation to the COVID-19 peak on July 15, 2021, confirmed positive cases have been reduced by 78 percent.
