TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Provincial Government was set to follow the Religious Affairs Ministry’s policy regarding the slaughtering of sacrificial animals or known as qurban during Eid al-Adha that falls on July 20, 2021. Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria said the city was ready to implement Minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas’s decision.
“We are waiting for the policy on whether [qurban must be performed] in the slaughterhouse and others,” said Riza in the City Hall, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday, July 13.
Riza asserted that in principle, all religious activities and events are prohibited in regions enforcing the emergency state of public mobility restriction or Emergency PPKM policy in a bid to prevent crowds that have the potential for Covid-19 transmission.
Previously, Minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas issued a circular regarding the temporary ban on religious activities in places of worship, Takbiran, and Eid prayers, as well as technical instructions for qurban implementation in regions under Emergency PPKM.
During the Emergency PPKM, qurban is allowed to be held on Dzulhijjah 11-13 or three days after Eid al-Adha and is recommended at slaughterhouses (RPH-R) or outside the slaughterhouses under strict health protocols. The meat must also be distributed directly by officers to recipients.
