TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The number of passengers on the KAI Commuter Line or KRL dropped on Monday, July 5, the third day since the Emergency PPKM was imposed in Java and Bali. As of 8:00 in the morning, the number of passengers was 73,808, down 27 percent compared to the same time last week's Monday.
A number of KRL stations also recorded a decrease in passengers. Bogor Station recorded 6,735 users, down 19% from last week; Citayam Station 5,380 users or down 26%; and Bojonggede Station recorded 5,114 users, down by 35%.
The Indonesian government is imposing an emergency state of community-level public activity restrictions from July 3 to 20, during which the rules for using public transportation are tightened.
The KAI Commuter has also tightened health protocols at stations and on trains, especially with regard to maintaining a safe distance between users.
"Currently the allowed user capacity is 52 passengers per car. Standing passengers are asked to stand in one line, all facing forward," KCI spokesperson Anne Purba said in a statement, Monday.
Anne Purba said that the KAI Commuter, starting today, also requires everyone in the station and train areas to wear two masks. "Medical masks covered with cloth masks, as advised by doctors and the Health Ministry."
During the implementation of Emergency PPKM, Anne appealed to the public to only take the KRL for urgent needs, and to follow all health protocols and rules. She asked passengers to plan their trips well ahead by always checking available information on schedules, train positions, and overcrowding at stations via the KRL Access app.
