TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno is determined to promote one of the Indonesian typical foods, tempeh or tempe, which is made from fermented soybeans to the international community.
“We will continue to develop tempe as a world cultural heritage. We are coordinating with related parties and discussing with the trade minister team to ensure the readiness of tempeh, both in terms of supply and quality in the market,” he said on Wednesday, June 2, 2021.
Sandiaga said his side would design a number of stage plans and coordinate with related parties to promote tempeh products in the global market. According to him, a technical team has been formed in collaboration with the Trade Ministry to prepare the supply and quality of tempeh.
The minister also expressed optimism that tempeh could be accepted by the international community like rendang which is already renowned as the best Indonesian dish.
Sandiaga Uno went on to say that the government will later adopt gastro diplomacy, which is diplomacy using food as a medium, in the promotion of tempeh as a culinary heritage of Indonesia. “Hopefully we can bring tempeh in the promotion activities of international culinary and tourism,” he said.
