Wisma Atlet Covid-19 Emergency Hospital Dominated by Eid Homecoming Travelers

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The number of Covid-19 patients being treated at the Kemayoran Wisma Atlet Covid-19 Emergency Hospital continued to increase over the past week. As of Tuesday morning, May 25, the hospital recorded 1,393 patients.

The hospital coordinator Major General Tugas Ratmono said the hike in the number of patients started on Tuesday, May 18. “A few days after the Eid holiday,” he said in a written statement on Tuesday, May 25.

Tugas explained that the hospital accommodated 900 patients diagnosed with coronavirus disease on May 18. The bed occupancy rate was only 15.02 percent at that time. The figure then continued to rise compared to the number of patients who were discharged.

The new patients, Tugas added, were dominated by those from the family and Eid homecoming infection clusters. The emergency hospital was set as a reference for Eid travelers who tested positive for Covid-19 at the checkpoints. 

Wisma Atlet Emergency Hospital in Kemayoran has four towers with a capacity of 5,994 patients. The government also set up a spare tower for Covid-19 treatment so that the total bed capacity reaches 8,000.
