Police Close Puncak Routes on Eid Holidays

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - At the Eid holidays period this weekend, West Java's Cianjur Police closed the Puncak-Cipanas route starting from the roundabouts of Lampu Gentur Monument to Cianjur and vice versa. It was done as the anticipation to avoid the total traffic jam due to the increasing vehicle volume on the roads.
Meanwhile, vehicles heading to Bogor were diverted temporarily to alternative routes of Jonggol and Sukabumi.
Cianjur traffic police chief Yudistira told Tempo on Saturday, May 15, that the traffic engineering of the route was situational as the police recorded the high vehicles volume at the Puncak area heading to Cianjur this noon.
"It's situational. We'll impose traffic engineering, including the route closure, in Puncak, if there's a hike of vehicle volume. Towards noon today, the vehicle volume was increased significantly," said Yudistira. He added that once the situation returns to normal, the route will be reopened.
Meanwhile, the traffic congestion could be seen in a number of routes heading to tourist sites such as Hanjawar intersection, Cibodas Botanical Park and Cipanas Market, where hundreds of vehicles entering and exiting travel destinations.
The vehicle volume from Bogor passing the Puncak-Cianjur route was also increased .
However, the people from outside of the city must complete the travel requirements such as the Covid-free certificate to enter the city. Otherwise, the officers will ask for them to return to their city of origins.
"The temporary data showed that hundreds of vehicles were asked to turn over as they could not present Covid-free certificate," said Erwin, an officer at Puncak Pass post, regarding the traffic situation on Eid holidays in the past few days.
