TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Commission on Post-Immunization Accidents (Komnas KIPI) said there was not enough evidence about the effect of the AstraZeneca vaccine on Trio Fauqi Firdaus. The 22-year-old man from Buaran, West Jakarta, died a day after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine.
“Komnas and Komda DKI (the regional commission) conducted a joint audit last Friday, and the internal commission concluded yesterday afternoon that there was not enough evidence to link this adverse event to the immunization. Thus, further investigation is still needed,” said Komnas KIPI Head Hindra Irawan Satari in a written statement on Monday, May 10, 2021.
Komnas KIPI is an institution tasked to supervise the implementation of vaccination, particularly adverse events following immunization. Based on the commission’s data, there has been no deaths following the COVID-19 vaccination in Indonesia to date.
In several previous cases, Hindra recalled the death of people after the COVID-19 vaccination was caused by other factors.
Trio Fauqi Virdaus reportedly died on Thursday, May 6, 2021. He received the AstraZeneca vaccine the day before and was feverish afterwards. His condition declined as the fever still gripped him. He was rushed to hospital on Thursday and pronounced dead at 12:30 local time.
The Health Ministry expressed condolences over the death of Trio, hoping the investigation conducted by Komnas KIPI and Komda KIPI could immediately yield results.
