TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Commuter line operator PT KAI decided to suspend its electric train service at Tanah Abang Station beginning today, May 3, 2021, at 15:00-19:00 local time. The VP Corporate Secretary Anne Purba said the policy was taken to anticipate Covid-19 transmission caused by public crowds in the area ahead of the Eid homecoming ban and Eid al-Fitr holidays.
Anne said the Tanah Abang Station on Sunday was packed again by people heading to or returning from Tanah Abang Market. “KAI Commuter records 37,349 people entering the station until 17:00,” she said in a written statement on Sunday night
The policy was also made after Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan and Jakarta Metro Police Chief Insp. Gen. Fadil Imran and Regional Military Command Maj. Gen. Dudung Abdurachman visited the city wholesale market on Sunday afternoon.
The details of commuter line services beginning Monday, May 2, at every 15:00-19:00 are as follows.
- Round trip service of KRL Rangkasbitung / Parungpanjang / Serpong - Tanahabang will only begin from and until Palmerah Station.
- Round trip service or KRL Bogor/Depok/Nambo-Angke/Jatinegara will not stop at Tanah Abang Station. Passengers can get off the train at the nearest stations, viz. Karet Station, Duri Station, and Angke Station.
Other KRL services will run smoothly, Anne added. The KAI Commuter would deploy more officers at the station to anticipate a surge in passengers number.
