LRT Jakarta to Start Operating July 2022, Says KAI Chief

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chief Commissioner of state railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI), Said Aqil Siradj, is optimistic that the light rapid transit or LRT Jakarta connecting the capital to its neighboring regions, namely Bogor, Depok, and Bekasi, will operate in July 2022.
He asserted that KAI and other state-owned companies PT Adhi Karya, PT Inka, and PT LEN Industri are working together to accelerate the completion of the project.
“We keep working hard so that all ongoing projects including the Jabodebek LRT will finish according to the set targets,” said Said Aqil as quoted from his statement on Friday, March 12, 2021.
On Wednesday, March 10, Said Aqil monitored the project at the Harjamukti LRT Station, Cibubur, East Jakarta. He said the national strategic project is going well and has no shortcomings.
He believed the urban rail transportation will bring a great significant impact on the economy for the society. Besides, it will reduce traffic congestion and boost the people’s economy.
As of March 5, 2021, the construction progress of the LRT Jakarta phase 1 reached 83.37 percent and was targeted to become operational in July 2022 with 18 stops. The urban mass transportation will adopt automatic train control by using CBTC (Communications-Based Train Control) system with the grade of automation level 3.
