TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe Public Works and Housing Ministry (PUPR) is reportedly preparing to relocate victims’ houses following the devastating floods and landslides in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) after the ministry mobilized a team to the two most affected regions in the province; Adonara and Lembata.

“The relocation needs to be done as the settlement affected by the natural disaster is currently inside the debris path of the river flow filled with rocks,” said the Ministry’s NTT and NTB (West Nusa Tenggara) mitigation task force head Widiarto on Sunday, April 11. “The risks would be too great for them to settle their original area.”

According to the information gathered there are two alternative locations currently prepared by the government in Adonara while a local government land area is being prepared as the relocation land in Lembata.

The areas will soon be announced for locals but Widiarto assures that these relocations will move to areas safe from risks of natural disasters.

He explained that 1,000 knock-down simple instant houses (Risha) will be constructed in the new areas with 700 in Lembata and 300 in Adonara which is expected to be completed within 4 months of development.
