TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Director General of Land Transportation of the Transportation Ministry Budi Setiyadi said his side will block the road access in 333 points during the enforcement of the ban on Eid homecoming. The government is determined to bar mass exodus during the Eid al-Fitr holidays from May 6 to 17, 2021.
“The National Police will prepare 333 checkpoints,” said Budi on Thursday, April 8, 2021.
The Transportation Ministry in coordination with the police will net private vehicles and trucks with black license plates carrying illegal travelers during the period of homecoming ban. However, Budi stopped short of detailing the points.
Minister Budi Karya Sumadi previously appealed to people to refrain from returning to their hometowns “We see the possibility of people riding private vehicles and trucks with black license plates. We will take firm action,” said Budi Karya.
Budi Karya confirmed that the government's decision to ban homecoming was final. According to him, there were several considerations related to the Covid-19 pandemic behind the ban.
The Transportation Ministry is preparing regulations to limit transport movements. Budi Karya also said his side is waiting for the Covid-19 Task Force to issue a circular on the 2021 Eid homecoming ban.
