TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno said the government will rearrange Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) cultural park area. The project, he said, could imitate the rearrangement of Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) sports complex.
“We have observed that the government, State Secretary Ministry, manages GBK well. We learn from the rearrangement of GBK so that TMII will be a super tourist destination in the future,” said Sandiaga in a written statement on Thursday, April 8.
President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo signed the Presidential Decree (Perpres) No. 19 of 2021 concerning the TMII management. It is noted that the management would no longer be under Yayasan Harapan Kita, a foundation established by the late wife of second Indonesia President Soeharto. The foundation had operated the recreational area since 1977 based on Presidential Decree No. 51/1977.
Sandiaga Uno opined that the park is potential for venues of meetings, incentives, conventions, and exhibitions or MICE and a culinary tourism destination. He hoped that the takeover could improve the services to the community and open up access to quality culture-based tourism.
