TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - People with disabilities are prone to being exposed to coronavirus and should be prioritized by the government in the national Covid-19 vaccination program.
Head of the Health Ministry’s immunization sub-directorate, Asik Surya, asserted the importance of including everyone in the list of vaccine recipients. But it is hampered by the limited amount of vaccine supplies, which the government is still waiting on. One of the top priorities of vaccine recipients is the healthcare worker which is in the front line of the Covid-19 battle.
Surya said the Covid-19 vaccines are not able to be distributed evenly, moreover simultaneously, due to the limited supplies in its early production stage. But the health ministry highly encourages organizations representing disabled people to file an official request to have them included in the priority list.
Despite asserting the equal rights for the Indonesian population to receive Covid-19 shots, Surya is confident that a request coming from people with disabilities may get them to be included in the government’s priority list on vaccine recipients.
