TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government has announced it will implement yet another variation of what is basically a COVID-19 social restriction that will start on Tuesday, February 9. The new restriction, dubbed the micro PPKM, will replace the Java-Bali PPKM (enforcement of public activity restrictions) enacted from January 11-February 9.

The Home Affairs Ministry’s Director General of Regional Administration, Safrizal, said the micro PPKM would focus on different aspects in public mobility compared to the previous restrictions.

“The first and second phase of the initial PPKM aimed at public activities, offices, malls, airports, and other public activities,” said Safrizal in an online discussion today.

Meanwhile, the latest version will focus more on the COVID-19 viral spread across the community level and veer away from the enforcement on malls and offices as the places had been deemed "disciplined."

Later on, the micro PPKM in Java and Bali regions, as the two islands are considered COVID-19 "red zones", would be differentiated based on zonations. The government hopes that intercepting public mobility on the community level will better suppress the spread of the virus.
