TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Covid-19 task force on Friday revealed that the provinces of West Kalimantan and Riau can be the references for other regencies in terms of managing the pandemic. Both provinces are at low risk of spreading the virus and classified as 'yellow zones.'
"We have identified with local administrations to be able to pinpoint the mitigation attempts the provinces have implemented which resulted in the effectively suppressed viral spread," wrote Covid-19 task force spokesman Wiku Adisasmito in his statement on Friday, February 5.
West Kalimantan is currently home to 10 regencies/cities that are classified as yellow zones, which constitutes 71 percent of its total regencies/cities. The rest are classified as orange zones, which succeeded far better than other regions that are dominated by red zones.
Meanwhile, Riau has eight regencies/cities with yellow zone status, which comprises 67 percent of its total areas. The essential aspect to note from the two regions is that they have implemented effective contact tracing as preventive measures despite not recording a high Covid-19 testing rate. Both West Kalimantan and Riau Provinces compensated for the low testing with massive public education on mitigating the pandemic.
