TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo encouraged the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) to take a major role in overseeing how strategic positions are being filled in the government. The message was conveyed in an online coordination meeting on money laundering and terrorist funding on Thursday, January 14, 2020.
"By actively tracking the financial track records of a candidate for a public official," said Jokowi on January 14, 2020.
Despite excluding details on how PPATK should implement its monitoring, Jokowi argued that such effort is needed to ensure a candidate has a clean transactional track record and to allow the PPATK in assisting the government's programs.
"And to eradicate corruption that has broadly varied and is highly infectious," Jokowi added.
The President also said that money laundering and terrorist funding monitoring must also focus on platforms that utilize the latest technologies potentially used to commit such crimes.
