TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The capital city's Mass Rapid Transit or MRT Jakarta booked Rp75 billion operating profits in 2020. The figure is lower compared to 2019's Rp172 billion, a result of restricted public mobilization in an effort to curb Covid-19 transmission.
"Our operating income was down 50 percent, but still positive," MRT Jakarta president director William Sabandar said in a virtual discussion Tuesday, January 5.
Profits declined as a result of the pandemic. William said the company took efficiency measures to minimize expenses by cutting or suspending several non-priority expenditures.
Throughout last year, MRT Jakarta's revenues were sustained by non-ticket and non-farebox incomes, such as advertisement.
"Despite the crisis, we are able to maintain a healthy cash flow—no job layoffs," William said.
