TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Thamrin clock statue which is situated at the junction of Jalan MH Thamrin and Jalan Kebon Sirih will be relocated temporarily due to the phase 2A construction of MRT Jakarta of HI Roundabout-Monas segment.
“Like it or not, the clock must be moved temporarily. The foundation is conflicted with the underneath structure,” said Iswandi Imran, a professor of concrete materials and structures from Bandung Institute of Technology, in a webinar on Thursday, November 5, 2020.
The construction plan of Thamrin MRT station is located right under the cultural heritage site. The distance between the deepest part of the clock statue and the station construction is only three meters.
Iswandi explained that the 13-meter-high monument would be cut into three parts prior to the relocation; namely the clock house, the body, and the leg which is currently functioned as a police post.
He suggested that the construction of Thamrin MRT Jakarta station should be integrated with the clock statue so that the historical site could remain stable and last longer as it has a solid base.
