TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan has decided to extend the transitional large-scale social restriction (PSBB) up to January 3, 2021, which is mainly driven by the fact that confirmed Covid-19 cases continue to grow ahead of the Christmas and New Year’s eve holidays.
“We highly urge people to continue conducting activities at home,” wrote Anies in his latest statement.
The call to remain at home during the year-end holidays is mainly to prevent a rampant spread of Covid-19 among families, known as the ‘family cluster infection’ that was found to grow after holiday periods in the past couple of months.
The aforementioned along with office clusters has largely contributed in increasing the city’s confirmed infection cases. The capital city has recorded 3,821 new cases from the ‘family cluster’ and 313 new confirmed cases from ‘office clusters’ from December 7 - 13.
“People’s mobility during the year-end holidays will definitely determine the growth of confirmed Covid-19 cases, especially from the dominating clusters,” said Anies Baswedan.
