Jakarta Requires Rapid Antigen Test for All Entering and Leaving Town

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Provincial Government announced a mandatory rapid antigen test for all people entering and leaving the capital city beginning Friday, December 18, 2020.
The policy will be valid for three weeks until January 8 next year or during the Christmas and New Year holidays.
“The rapid antigen test is a national policy, meaning that airlines must oblige would-be passengers to present the test results,” said the city Transportation Agency Head Syafrin Liputo here on Wednesday, Dec. 16.
Syafrin explained that the rule applies to all citizens using public transportation, either land, sea, or air transport. However, he confirmed that the regulation would be prioritized for air transport.
As reported earlier, the government prohibited crowds and mass Christmas and New Year celebrations in public places in an effort to prevent a spike in Covid-19 cases.
The decision was taken in a virtual coordination meeting for Covid-19 handling in Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, East Java, and Bali on Monday, Dec. 14, led by Coordinating Minister Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan. Luhut asked for the tightening of the social restriction or locally known PSBB starting December 18, 2020, until January 8 next year.
