Mahfud MD Takes Responsibility for Crowd Gathering Case

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Politics, Law, and Security, Mahfud MD, on Wednesday, Dec 16, tweeted a reply to West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil who once urged for police to question the minister for allowing large group of people gather as Rizieq Shihab returned to Indonesia on November 10.
“Well noted Kang RK (Ridwan Kamil), I take responsibility. I announced that HRS (Rizieq) was permitted to return to Indonesia as he has the legal right to do so,” Mahfud tweeted today, December 16.
The large crowd gathering has gained attention as the government’s health protocol bans such an event during the pandemic.
“I was also the one who announced HRS is allowed to be picked up as long as they obey the rules and do not violate health protocols. It was also I who asked for Rizieq Shihab to be escorted to Petamburan,” Mahfud tweeted.
Ridwan Kamil was previously questioned by police as Rizieq followers had also gathered at a location in West Java. During his questioning, he expressed the unfairness of police summoning regional heads and not Mahfud MD.
