TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan confirmed in a written statement that he has tested positive for Covid-19. However, he said he would still lead virtual meetings during his self-isolation.
The former minister of education and culture contracted the coronavirus based on the result of a swab test at the Jakarta City Hall which came back in the early hours of Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2020.
“After consulting and as doctors suggest, I will undergo independent isolation and follow the treatment procedures established by the medical team,” said Anies.
Last Wednesday, Nov. 25, Anies’ swab test result turned back negative. On Sunday, Nov. 29, after Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria tested positive, Anies also took a test and the result was negative.
Presently, Anies said he is in good condition and did not develop symptoms of the coronavirus disease. All people having contact with the governor, the family and staffers, have taken tests as well.
“I undergo self-isolation in a separate place from my family and be alone,” he added.
The governor hoped that everyone getting in contact with him in the past few days will take necessary steps such as self-isolation or a swab test. The city’s Health Agency would list and reach the people. “All related procedures will be carried out.”
Based on the protocol, the governor’s office will be closed temporarily. Likewise, the deputy governor’s office in Block B of the City Hall has been shut down. Other buildings remain to operate under strict health protocol.
Anies Baswedan appealed to the public to increase discipline in complying with the health protocols dubbed 3M, viz. wearing face masks, maintaining distance with each other, and washing hands regularly. “Please pray for a speedy recovery and May Allah protect us all and bless the city of Jakarta.”
