State Secretary Downplays Job Creation Law's Typing Mistakes

3 November 2020 16:21 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State Secretary Pratikno on Tuesday issued a statement to clarify information regarding the series of typing mistakes in Law No.11/2020 on job creation. According to him, the series of typos will not affect the law’s substance or implementation and that it is merely a technical mishap.

"Today we discovered technical mistakes in the draft of Law No.11/2020 on Job Creation. But those mistakes are administrative mistakes and will not affect how it is implemented," Pratikno maintained in his statement on Tuesday, November 3.

He assured that the government will pay close attention to similar events for future law-making and made sure that simple mistakes such as the one contained in the widely controversial law will not reoccur.

Previously, constitutional law expert Bivitri Susanti revealed the typos contained in the Job Creation Law’s Article 6 Chapter III, Article 5 (1), and Article 53 Chapter XI in the version that was already ratified by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.

Bivitri said that the mistakes can potentially affect the implementation of the law and will be made worse as laws that have been signed by the President cannot just easily be corrected.

“What are the legal implications? The Articles that are known to be wrong cannot be implemented. Because in legal terms, an Article cannot be run according to the imagination of the Law’s applicator, but it must be as what it is written as,” said Bivitri.
