Police Clarify Rp100mn Reward Notice for Information on Cai Changpan

1 October 2020 20:15 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaJakarta Metro Police Head of Public Relations Sr. Comr. Yusri Yunus clarified the reward notice totaling Rp100 million for information about a fugitive Cai Changpan, a drug convict who escaped from Tangerang Penitentiary.

“[The reward is] not true,” said Yusri on Wednesday, October 1, 2020.

He then released a new poster of the wanted person, in which no reward was stated in return for the information about the 53-year-old Chinese man.

However, he confirmed that the police had listed Cai in the most wanted people’s list. The new poster also said that anyone who releases or helps or protects a convict can be sentenced to two years and eight months imprisonment according to Article 223 of the Criminal Code (KUHP)

Earlier, a poster circulated in the public saying people who have information regarding the whereabouts of a drug convict on death row, Cai alias Antoni, and manage to arrest the latter will be rewarded with Rp100 million. People can call Tangerang Narcotics Unit Head at 0812 5317 8671.

Cai Changpan reportedly escaped from Tangerang Penitentiary on Monday, September 14, 2020. He was sentenced to death in 2017 for a drug trafficking case weighing 110 kilograms.

Yusri Yunus said on Wednesday, September 30, 2020, that the police had probed 14 witnesses including prison officers.
