TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Thousand Islands resort police dropped the investigation to the finding of five boat crew bodies inside the freezer of KM Starindo Jaya Maju VI vessel. The case was dropped as the authorities didn't find any criminal element.

"The case is dropped as no criminal element was found," said the Thousand Islands Police Chief, Adj. Sr. Commissioner Morry Edmond, on Saturday, Sept. 19.

The post mortem result showed there were no signs of violence and that they have died of alcoholic beverages consumption.

Morry said that initially, the boat crews were declared died of coronavirus but the police did not find the indication after further investigation.

"Based on the post mortem check, we can confirm that the cause of the death was bootleg liquor," the police said. The boat crews drank bootleg liquor with an alcohol level of 70%.

The skipper and the rest of the crew members decided to keep the dead crews in the boat freezer as the journey to the land was still far. The five bodies were kept in the freezer for two weeks.

The five dead bodies inside the freezer of the fishing boat were found during the police's Mask Patrol operation in the Thousand Islands, Jakarta. The boat captain said that five people had died, and their bodies were stored in the freezer.
