Preacher Syekh Ali Jaber Stabbed During Da'wah Event in Lampung

13 September 2020 22:29 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Famous preacher from Medina, Syekh Ali Jaber, was stabbed by an unknown man during a da'wah event at Falahuddin Mosque, Tamin, Central Tanjungkarang, Bandar Lampung on Sunday afternoon, September 13, 2020.

Syekh Ali Jaber reportedly suffered a stab wound in his upper right arm and the police also have arrested the perpetrator with the initial 'AA'.

"The perpetrator has been arrested and has now been taken to the Bandar Lampung Police Headquarters for interrogation," said Head of Public Relations at the Lampung Regional Police, Sr. Comr. Zahwani Pandra Arsyad when contacted on Sunday, September 13, 2020.

Pandra explained that the stabbing incident began when Syekh Ali Jaber opened a photo session with the congregation. However, when they were about to take a photo with the mother and child congregation, suddenly a man broke in and immediately stabbed Syekh Ali Jaber.

"There was someone from the right side carrying a sharp weapon. The attack was repelled and eventually injured Syekh Ali Jaber's right shoulder," said Pandra. Suddenly some of the congregation, the committee, and the police immediately rescued Syekh Ali Jaber and took him to the nearest puskesmas (public health center). Meanwhile, the others apprehended the perpetrator.

Pandra further stated that Syekh Ali Jaber's condition had recovered and is now on his way home.

As for the motive for the attack, the police are still interrogating the perpetrator. "It's still being investigated. But what is clear is that the perpetrator was already at the location when the da'wah or recitation event began," said Pandra.
