TEMPO.CO, JakartaArmed Forces (TNI) Commander Air Chief Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto said the Presidential Instruction (Inpres) No. 6 Year 2020 on the Increased Discipline and Law Enforcement of Health Protocols in the Prevention and Control of COVID-19 aimed at suppressing the spread of COVID-19 in the country.

“This policy is highly necessary as the trend of positive cases in Indonesia has not flattened yet and the case fatality ratio of COVID-19 in Indonesia is 4.65 percent,” Hadi said in a virtual meeting with TNI top brass to evaluate the disciplining of health protocols and the follow-up on the Inpres No. 6 Year 2020 at the TNI headquarters in Cilangkap, East Jakarta, Friday, August 7, 2020.

Hadi said in order to execute the Inpres he had instructed all First Command Chiefs (Pangkotama) and Regional Unit Commanders to coordinate with Regional Leaders Coordination Forums (Forkopimda) and other related components to formulate the implementation of the Inpres in their respective regions.

“The commanders of regional units must coordinate intensively with the police and other related institutions to ramp up the patrols of health protocol implementation in society, particularly in public spaces,” Hadi said.

Earlier, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud Md said the issuance of the Inpres No. 6 Year 2020 sought to discipline the public who violated the health protocols.
