TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi appreciated a number of innovations made by applicators of online-based motorbike taxis or online ojek and special rental transportation during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I appreciate various innovations created by the applicators that can provide opportunities for driver-partners to resume working while paying attention to the health protocols,” said Budi Karya in a press release on Friday, July 10, 2020.
According to him, application features such as food and goods delivery services with cashless payments have greatly helped the public, especially during the ongoing pandemic.
He added the provision of protective screens, disinfecting vehicles, the mandatory use of face masks, and hand sanitizers could also be a solution so that this app-based transportation remained operative while applying health protocols to prevent virus transmission.
The minister then asked applicators to optimize shelter facilities in order to guarantee the health and the safety aspects for passengers and drivers. Thus far, shelters are available at four integrated stations, viz. Tanah Abang, Sudirman, Pasar Senen, and Juanda.
“Make good shelters so that drivers can wait in good places. We and the regional government will facilitate the places,” Budi Karya added.
The Transportation Minister also encouraged online ojek applicators to provide equal rights to work for driver-partners with special needs. “With these innovations, we give the community confidence that this is safe. So they are convinced to use online and special rental transportation,” said Budi Karya.
