TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Democratic Party chairman Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono or AHY asserted that his side was ready to contribute to the country’s progress despite not being in the circle of political parties backing the government.
“Even though Democratic Party is not part of the national government, we have a spirit to make positive contributions,” said AHY when meeting the chairman of the National Awakening Party (PKB) Muhaimin Iskandar or Cak Imin in Central Jakarta, Wednesday, July 8.
AHY said during the meeting with Cak Imin, they discussed current developing issues, including the crisis that hit Indonesia due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He underlined that the Democratic Party was ready to unite for humanity.
“Whether we are asked or not, we want to present solutions including helping health workers and Indonesian people who are highly affected by COVID-19,” Agus added.
He mentioned that the friendly relationship between PKB and the Democratic Party could be maintained albeit the Democratic Party did not join the coalition. The two parties also agreed on the commitment of cooperation, that would at least start from the 2020 regional head election and in the parliament.
Moreover, AHY went on, both parties have a lot in common and in harmony in seeing Indonesia as a whole, such as the same civilized and united political perspective.
“Hopefully, with the simultaneous regional head election this year, the sense of togetherness in a number of regions can be a good start for a closer relationship between the two parties,” the Democratic Party chairman remarked.
