TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The CEO of state-owned electricity company PLN, Zulkifli Zaini, said that his side would offer two solutions for the surge in electricity bill complained by customers during the Covid-19 pandemic. He said the firm would first conduct digital transmission of the kWh meter.
“We will digitize the kWh meter,” said Zulkifli in a joint hearing with the House of Representatives (DPR) Commission VI on Thursday, July 25. According to him, with a digital KWh meter, customers can calculate their electricity usage accurately.
For the second solution which aimed to support the system, he added, the state firm planned to launch New Mobile PLN application as its one-stop digital service platform.
Zulkifli reiterated that the app will ease customers to report their electricity meter that will be recorded as a bill. Besides, customers can also pay their bills through the online service.
“Not only that, the services are also available via mobile phones,” he said.
Additionally, if there is service system disruption, the company will notify customers through the app, which will be launched next month. At present, the service is still being tested in the internal company.
Previously, the National Consumer Protection Agency (BPKN) chairman Ardiansyah Parman stated that some 14 million electricity meters had expired. He asserted that must be changed to smart meter ones so that issues on the losses incurred by PLN and the surge in customers’ bills could be handled immediately.
