TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Governor Anies Baswdan is scheduled to lead a meeting with the Jakarta COVID-19 task force and experts to determine whether Indonesia’s capital city will extend its large-scale social distancing (PSBB) protocol or loosen the restrictions and enter the new normal phase.
The third PSBB period was imposed on May 22 and is scheduled to end on June 4. “The governor will lead the meeting with the city’s COVID-19 task force determining its finalization and will be announced soon,” said Jakarta deputy Ahmad Riza Patria on Tempo’s virtual discussion ‘ngobrol Tempo’ on Monday evening.
Moreover, he said Anies Baswedan plans to announce when the city will enter the new normal phase in the next day or two that will highly depend on the latest epidemiology data presented by the team of experts.
The Jakarta deputy also assured that the city will only enter the new normal transitional phase if the data guarantees that residents will be able to remain productive safely amidst the existence of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The new normal phase will see the city administration gradually loosening its social restrictions by allowing businesses, public office activities, and religious worship to reopen. “We are not keen to reopen crowded places such as traditional markets and malls but we will gradually allow other public activities,” said Patria.
