New Normal, Jakarta Yet to Decide Start of New School Year

2 June 2020 06:49 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Anies Baswedan-led Jakarta administration on Monday made it clear that it has yet to draw up a finalized ‘new normal’ scheme for the new school year which according to the latest Jakarta education agency head’s decree No.467/2020 is scheduled for July 13.

“As for resuming normal school activities is yet to be finalized. We will soon produce a date as to when the perfect time would be,” said newly-appointed Jakarta deputy governor Ahmad Riza Patria to Antara on Monday, June 1.

He made it clear that the government will collaborate with epidemiologists and organizational professions related to COVID-19.

“It will be announced at the right time, especially children who are under 10 years of age which is our utmost attention. For the time being, school activities and religious worships will be resumed at each and everyone’s own homes,” said the deputy governor.

Initially, the city’s education agency had set July 13-15, 2020, as the school introduction period for new students but is not meant to be the absolute decision in regards to starting the city’s new normal school activities. The agency maintained that the aforementioned deadline remains as a temporary schedule and will be further deliberated with COVID-19 health experts.
