TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Metro Police arrested a suspect of medical face mask hoarder at the Royal Mediterania Apartment, Tanjung Duren, West Jakarta. The perpetrator was caught while carrying cardboards containing surgical disposable masks he had hoarded.

"We arrest the suspect in the elevator, he is carrying three large boxes containing masks," the Metro Jaya Police Chief of Public Relations Yusri Yunus when confirmed on Wednesday, March 4, 2020.

Yusri said previously, the police received public complaints about the scarcity of face masks amid the coronavirus outbreak. The public also reported that there were parties who sold masks through Instagram.

The police then investigate the case until they get the seller's information through an Instagram account. It was known that the crime was committed by someone on behalf of Helena and located in the apartment.

The authorities found hundreds of face masks from various brands inside the apartment unit. There were 120 boxes of Sensi brand masks, 153 boxes of Mitra brand, 71 boxes of Prasti brand, and 15 boxes of Facemas brand masks.

The suspect bought the mask from a supermarket and deliberately stockpiling them for resale when mask prices jumped. "The suspect knows it is very difficult to find a face mask in the market now," Yusri said.
