Minister Ensures Immediate Investigation on Subang Bus Accident

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi urged the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) and the Directorate General of Land Transportation to explore the causes of the Purnama Sari tourism bus accident on Jalan Raya Bandung-Subang route on Saturday, January 18.
"I am concerned about the incident (in Subang), it is very unexpected. Moreover, it kills someone. I offer my condolences for the passing of eight people and those seriously injured will be treated," said Budi Karya in a written statement received in Jakarta, Monday, January 20.
Budi Karya revealed that Director General of Land Transportation discovered several irregularities based on the police findings thus far, such as the bus was ln the 4 gear position, the vehicle's document did not match the fleet.
"So I ask the KNKT and Land Transportation DG to clarify it," Budi Karya underlined.
Furthermore, to prevent the recurrence of bus accidents, the minister said that he would map the accident-prone areas and had also sent recommendations to the Ministry of Public Works and Housing (PUPR) to change road construction.
The bus accident in Subang occurred on Saturday, January 18, at around 05:23 p.m. in Naggrok Palasari Village, Ciater District, Subang Regency. The bus with the plate number of E 7508 W was driven by Dede Purnama and boarded 61 people consisting of 54 adults, 5 children, 1 driver, and 1 bus conductor.
