TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Qurbani committee of Jakarta's Istiqlal Mosque states that they will use environmentally friendly plastic bags to wrap the Qurbani meats that will be distributed to the people.
"We've collaborated with the eco-friendly plastic producer, Joyoboyo," said Istiqlal Mosque's public relation bureau Abu Hurairah AS when met at the mosque on Tuesday, July 23.
Abu says that Istiqlal has been using the eco-friendly plastic bag for Qurbani meat in the past four years. "The color of the plastic bag is clear white," he said.
Plastic plant Joyoboyo or Sinar Joyoboyo Plastic produces environmentally friendly HDPE plastics commonly used for foods and non-foods.
According to Abu, the Istiqlal Mosque in this year's Idul Adha celebration will continue to use the eco-friendly plastic bags to wrap the Qurbani meats that will be distributed to the public.
Istiqlal Mosque, almost every year, slaughters Qurbani animals donated by the society and state officials, including the president and vice president.
Jakarta Provincial Government bans the use of black plastic bags to wrap Qurbani meats. The black-colored plastic bags are products of recycled used plastics and other materials that are harmful to health.
The Jakarta administration calls on Qurbani committees to use packagings made of bamboo, that are environmentally friendly, to wrap the meats.
