BMKG: 2024 Dry Season in Greater Bandung to Begin in June

23 April 2024 08:51 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Bandung - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicted that this year’s dry season in Greater Bandung will commence in June 2024. The agency’s head of the Bandung Geophysics Station, Teguh Rahayu, said that parts of West Java have been transitioning from the rainy season to the dry season.

“The onset of the dry season in Greater Bandung is predicted to occur in early June 2024, with normal to below-normal rainfall,” Rahayu said on Monday, April 22.

The Greater Bandung area encompasses Bandung City, Bandung Regency, Cimahi City, and West Bandung Regency. According to the agency's analysis, Bandung's maximum temperature occurs between 12:00 and 15:00 WIB (Western Indonesia Time), ranging from 29-32 degrees Celsius.

“The temperature during the day is quite hot due to the maximum solar radiation and the growth of convective clouds,” Rahayu explained.

Meanwhile, the West Java area is expected to enter the beginning of the dry season and the transition period to the rainy season in the third ten days of April. This condition is marked by the onset of easterly winds or the Australian monsoon. The cloud cover also decreases, so the temperature during the day would be hot, with a relatively fast wind blowing. There is also the potential for rain and lightning.

This year’s dry season will commence in April and May in the West Java region, starting from the northern parts such as Bekasi, Karawang, Subang, Cirebon, Indramayu, Majalengka, and Kuningan. “Most areas in West Java will experience the dry season until June,” Rahayu remarked.

Therefore, the BMKG urged the public to be aware of the potential effects of bad weather during the current transition period, such as heavy rain with lightning and strong winds, tornadoes, or hail that can cause hydrometeorological disasters, and other adverse effects.
