TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Gerindra Party spokesman Andre Rosiade responded to the issue about Prabowo Subianto who was listed as one of the potential figures to run for the 2024 presidential election.
“If the people want Pak Prabowo in 2024 election, why not?” said Andre in Parliament complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Wednesday, July 3.
Andre explained there was a possibility that Gerindra would again support the party chair in the next race, and the party would consider the aspiration of the people. So should they want Prabowo to come forward, he could head for another run.
Andre mentioned a number of figures who became a state leader in old age, such as Mahathir Mohamad (92 years old) who is Malaysian Prime Minister and Ma’ruf Amin (76), the vice president-elect.
“In 2024, Pak Prabowo will be 72 years old, so if he remains fit, why not?” he added.
He also admitted there was a possibility that Prabowo himself reluctant to take another attempt. “Who knows that Pak Prabowo doesn’t want it, [so, he] gives the opportunities to younger people. That’s possible too.”
Previously, a pollster LSI Denny JA mentioned that Prabowo Subianto would possibly run for the 2024 presidential election among 14 other names including Muhaimin Iskandar, Airlangga Hartarto, Puan Maharani, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, and Ridwan Kamil.
Nevertheless, Andre reminded that the 2019 presidential election has just ended, and so it would be too early to talk about the next election. “We’ll see the development and dynamics.”
