TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Director-General of Information Application of the Information and Communication Ministry (Kominfo), Samuel Abrijani Pangerapan, considered online shopping via marketplaces is safer than via social media.
“I think [it’s safer via] marketplaces. Because basically, social media are not for trading, but promotions,” said Samuel at SCBD, South Jakarta, Monday, July 1.
Another reason, he added, was the security issue during transactions. According to him, e-commerce is more secure since buyers transfer money to sellers through a third party, which is the e-shop platform.

“Because I need assurance when making a transaction. So if anything happens, I can report to the platform. While on social media, whom can we call?” he underlined.
The development of technology, he continued, must be in line with people's awareness to tap into it based on its functionalities.

“Social media are a place for sharing stories with people in our circle. As for shopping, marketplaces are the right places,” he remarked.
Not only does it lower the risks of online shopping, e-commerce also helps traders enhance their credibility and the platform's as well. “With great credibility, online trading transactions will surely be easier and safer,” Samuel concluded.
