Accident Rate Tumbles 88 Percent during Eid Homecoming Peak

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Eid homecoming exodus this year ended on Saturday, June 1, 2019. The Transportation Ministry said the Eid rush lasted for three days from May 30-June 1, 2019.
The ministry’s Land Transportation Director General, Budi Setiyadi, said the number of accidents during the Eid exodus this year plummeted by 88 percent from that of the same period last year.
“In 2019 our posts recorded 220 accidents with death toll reaching 90 people. There has been a sharp decline of 88 percent,” he said in a written statement Tempo received on Tuesday, June 4, 2019.

In the same period last year, the number of accidents hit 1,911 cases with death toll of 691 people. Accumulatively, from D-7 to D-3 of Eid, the figure tumbled by 51 percent.
According to the National Police’s Traffic Corps, up till D-3 of Eid the police recorded 284 accidents with 61 fatalities, 42 people severely injured, and 42 others slightly injured. Accumulatively, traffic accident rate to D-3 of Eid last year reached 703 cases.
