KPK Warns State Officials of Sanctions on Ramadan Gifts

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) reminded every state officials to refuse any presents during this Ramadan month, and that there were punishments for violations.
“Especially if the gift is relative to a person’s position in office and goes against their obligations,” said KPK spokesman Febri Diansyah on Friday, May 10.
The law also mandates any state official to report any present to the KPK within 30 days after reception. Those who violate this law is subject to criminal sanctions overseen by Law No.20/2001 jo 31/1999 on corruption.

Other than accepting gifts, Febri reminded that state organizers must in no way request holiday allowances (THR) for personal and institution use. “That is banned and can implicate [them] in acts of corruption,” said Febri.
On May 8, 2019, the KPK chairman sent a circular regarding this issue and advised state organizers to donate edible food gifts—after reporting them to the KPK— to orphanages, nursing homes, and other institutions that urgently needed food supplies.
