Jokowi Declares Victory with 54.5 percent of Votes

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Presidential hopeful Joko Widodo declared himself as the victor in the 2019 presidential election with 54.5 percent of votes. He said this based on quick counts conducted by 12 pollsters.
“Because the incoming votes have reached nearly 100 percent today, we deliver results of quick count from 12 survey agencies that reveal Jokowi - Ma’ruf Amin garners 54.5 percent and Prabowo Subianto - Sandiaga Uno earns 45.5 percent,” said the incumbent in Plataran Restaurant, Menteng, Jakarta, Thursday, April 18.
However, Widodo underlined, his side is still waiting the official count carried out by Election Commission (KPU), hoping the vote calculation could be done as soon as possible. “But quick counts have provided a clear number,” he added.
According to the former Solo Mayor, his side quoting results of preliminary vote counting because of believing they used the scientific method. “Based on previous elections, the accuracy [of quick count] is 99 percent matches the real count,” he remarked.
Based on quick count released by several pollsters as of today, April 18, at 12:12 Jakarta time, Jokowi - Ma’ruf is leading the presidential election with 53.91 percent and 54.32 percent of votes against their rivals Prabowo - Sandiaga’s 46.09 percent and 45.68 percent.
