TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The tariff war between two online ride-hailing apps Gojek and Grab attracted the attention of University of Indonesia’s digital industry expert Harryadin Mahardika who strongly suggested Gojek recede from engaging in tariff war with Grab.
He maintains that such competition will threaten the sustainability of the business and hamper innovation in the online taxi’s technological investments.

“This is really unhealthy and disrupts innovation caused by reduced profit from the money burnt in tariff promo which will affect partners or drivers,” said Harryadin in Jakarta on Sunday.
He argues that Gojek has pinned its business design and ecosystem that is seen to be more mature, which he claims has created loyal customers. This strength, he says, is a more commendable element to dominate the market compared to offering illogical tariff promos.
He also says that service development and management flexibility in accepting inputs from its drivers are seen as an eminent element among the public. Harryadin argues that forming consumer loyalty can be optimized through innovation and general improvements on the app’s services.
“You can witness it yourself, Gojek has relatively little complaints,” said Harryadin.
