TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian citizens in Lebanon were very enthusiastic to celebrate the 73rd Indonesian Independence Day. They came to the Indonesian Embassy in Beirut since 6:30 local time to attend the flag raising ceremony on August 17.
An official at the Indonesian Embassy in Beirut, Rahmat I. Siregar, said that the Indonesian citizens came from outside Beirut, such as Akkar, Bekaa and Tripoli.
“The series of Independence Day activities carried out by the Indonesian Embassy have strengthened the sense of nationalism and love of the homeland, let alone their location is far from Indonesia,” Rahmat said, Friday, August 17.
Based on the data of the Indonesian Embassy in Beirut, in 2018, the number of Indonesian citizens in Lebanon is 212 people. Most of them are students, Indonesian citizens who are married to Lebanese citizens, non-student citizens, family members of the embassy's staffs, and thousands of Garuda troops who are part of the UNIFIL UN Peace Forces.
The Indonesian Embassy in Beirut organized various sports competitions such as volleyball, table tennis, badminton, bowling, futsal, and traditional competitions such as eating donuts, carrying marbles with spoons and words guessing.
