Foreign Investors to Enter IKN after Indonesia's 2024 Independence Day, Govt Says

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Investment Minister Bahlil Lahadalia explained that foreign investors would enter the Nusantara State Capital or IKN during the phase 2 development after the 2024 Independence Day of Indonesia.
"Foreign investors would enter during phase 2 development after the phase 1 development is finished," he said in Jakarta on Dec. 7. "After the August 17 ceremony (Independence Day)."
However, he said, the land has been cleared in IKN. Bahlil also explained that several foreign parties are interested in investing in IKN, but he was mandated by President Joko Widodo or Jokowi to prioritize domestic investment first.
"Thus, the premium [investment] targets are dominated by our people," he explained.
Bahlil did not explain in detail how many foreign investors are planning to contribute to IKN development. But, he said the investors came from various countries, such as the US, China, South Korea, and others.
It was previously reported that Jokowi announced on Nov. 20 that there are around 300 Letters of Intent to invest in IKN by foreign parties.
"I'm sure the number would go up," he concluded.
