TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State electricity company PLN president director Sofyan Basir said he respected the legal processes that the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) was conducting. He said the law must promote the principle of "innocent until proven guilty".

"As a citizen, the PLN president director will be law-abiding," he told a press conference at the PLN head office here on Monday, July 16.

The press conference was held to address media questions about the KPK's search at his home on Sunday. It was assumed that the search was part of the investigation into the alleged bribery committed during the development of Riau 1 steam power plant or the PLTU Riau 1.

KPK spokesman Febri Diansah confirmed the assumptions, and added that Sofyan's house was searched to find evidence connected to the case.

Sofyan said the KPK was welcomed in his house, and that he cooperated with the 10 officers that came to search the place.

"I gave them a number of documents with information related to the PLTU Riau 1 project," he remarked.

On Friday, July 13, the KPK arrested 13 people in different areas in Jakarta during a sting operation. Among them was Eni Maulani Saragih, the House of Representatives (DPR) deputy chairman of the Energy Commission.

Another arrested person was Apac Group CEO who is also the shareholder of Blackgold Natural Resources Limited, Johannes Budisutrisno Kotjo.

During the operation, the KPK confiscated Rp500 million in cash and an invoice for it, allegedly from Johannes to Eni.

Eni and Johannes are under suspicion of committing bribery in the PLTU Riau 1 project. The KPK named them suspects on Saturday.
